God is a Dilliwala - Preface

I had a very good story come to my mind so I have decided to write it down on my blog. Mind you, the story came first and then the title.
The story starts in late 70s in middle class north delhi suburb of Azadpur and follows a journey of a girl from Azadpur to Washington D.C in 2012. It is a story i can relate to, my sisters can and most of the people i know can.....it is the only story I will ever write so its going to be long it will have 38 chapters.
Don't really care if anyone reads it......this one is for me.

The Edradour

This is the Holy Grail for whisky drinkers. "THE EDRADOUR" is the best thing that has happened to me in years, it is simply the best drink I have ever tried. This bottle was gifted to my boss some 13 years ago by his scottish mother and it was aged 10 years then.

Difficult choice? I don't think so..

A very good friend of mine wants to buy a car, he took me to the car yards with him and the final shortlist is:

1. Toyota Corolla hatchback -30k km- 2006 model @$17500.
2. Volks Wagen Polo- 40K Kms - 2005 model @$15000.
3. BMW 318i - 100K Kms - 2000 model @ $18000.

Which one will you choose?

Questions....

Am I the only one who is subjected to silly questions from other people or is it that I find all other fellow human beings as stupid morons. I have not met anyone for a long time with whom I could talk and not get angry within 60 seconds. By anyone I mean anyone no exceptions.
I seriously believe that either they have lost it or may be I have.

Sailor(spontaneous answer): Yes I have a $4 ride too but you will have to wait 1 hour to get on boat with that ticket but with $5 ticket you can come right now.
Man: Ok, I will take the $5 ticket but where will you take me?
Sailor: for $5 I will take you around Adelaide but if you pay $100 i can take you to your parents in India.

Times, they are a-changin- BOB DYLAN

Come gather round people wherever you roam
And admit that the waters around you have grown
And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth saving
Then you'd better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone
For the times, they are achanging

Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pens
And keep your eyes open, the chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon, the wheel's still in spin
And there's no telling who that it's naming
Oh the loser will be later to win
For the times, they are a changing

Come senators, congressmen, please head the call
Don't stand in the doorway, don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt will be her that has stalled
The battle outside ragging will soon shake your windows
And rattle your hall
For the times, they are a changing

Come mothers and fathers all over this land
And don't criticize what you can't understand
Your sons and your daughter are beyond your command
Your old role is rapidly aging
Please get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand
For the times they are a changing

The line, it is drawn, the curse, it is cast
The slow one will later be fast
And the present now will soon be the past
The order is rapidly fading
The first one now will later be last
For the times, they are a changing

Internet 4 losers

This post was meant to be a comment on scouts post but then i thought it is getting too eccentric to be on anyone's blog so i have put it in mine:

yawn...why does everyone want to connect? why live in past? why are you guys afraid of moving on? I have 4-5 people in my life and i stay in touch with them through whatever means. I dont need to stay in touch with people from past/recentpast/present who are other than those 4-5 . I dont care if they are lost in the sands of time, may be it was meant to be. I dont have tension in any of my relationships cos whoever i felt had a possibility of giving tension/grief has been shunned. Move on get out of that past tense in your life, meet new people( and forget them quickly as well), may be the past is not letting you be what you are and you are getting bogged down by this image you/others have of you. FIND yourself and stop looking back.
This is not directed at any individual but i have noticed that majority of people in the blogging world make simple things very complicated like internet... it is a bloody medium to have fun THATS IT . I believe people who take time out to do something on internet(apart from professional work) are losers and need help.

Adelaide

I WAS THERE when U2 came to Adelaide, see yourself it was mindblowing.

Old castle in Adelaide hills.

River Torrens runs right between the city centre.

Adelaide hills wine region.

Victoria Square, its like the heart of Adelaide.

The most beautiful cricket ground in the world- Adelaide Oval.

Sunset at Glenelg beach.

Peak hour traffic in Adelaide...... city has zero traffic problems.

My ex house, will come back from India and look for new one.

Adelaide is one of the most beautiful cities to live in, my house is 20 minutes drive from white sand beaches and 25 minutes from beautiful hills and vinyards. Here are some of the pictures. I thought of putting the pictures here after seeing kaushik's post. It is ideal place to bring up children and live but as is the case with most beautiful places the employment opportunities are not good at all.

Homecoming

Country roads, take me home
To the place, I be-long.

I will be visiting India after 17 months, longest i have stayed away from my family and freinds.
I am a bit scared too, scared that things might have changed. I hope everyone is as i left them.
So much to do in only three weeks....

For Whisky Lovers

The Six Geographical Scotch Whisky Regions

Looking at the different whisky regions of Scotland can, if you ask the purists, become a geographical headache. Aficionados may well suggest that there are four major regions with approximately 24 named sub regions mainly dependent upon which river or glen the distillery is located. In general terms however, Scotland is divided into six geographical regions with fairly discernable taste differences between them.

Highland and Lowland Scotch Whisky

If you draw an imaginary line from the Tay estuary in the east following old county boundaries to the Clyde estuary in the west, you have the highland line which is the recognised division between Highland whisky and Lowland whisky.
Highland whisky can be described as mellow, flowery, sweet with oaky polish and aromatic with fresh nuttiness. Lowland whiskies on the other hand have a light freshness that makes them ideal for aperitifs. Take a dram and look out for lemons, grass being cut on a spring day and aromatic fruits.

Speyside Scotch Whisky

Although technically in the Highlands, the Speyside region which is situated to the north west of Aberdeen and to the east of Inverness has established itself as a separate region for identification purposes and has approximately fifty percent of all working distilleries located in this area. Driving around Speyside is brilliant, and is like driving along a malt whisky road map with familiar working and famous quiet distilleries popping up everywhere. With Speyside whiskies, look out for honey, lots of fruits and nuts and a little peat in some of them hills!

Island Scotch Whisky

Take now all the distilleries located on some of the surrounding northern and western islands, group them together and you have Island whiskies. Distilleries here would include the delicious Highland Park which is the most northerly working distillery, through to the peppery Talisker from Skye and down as far as the brilliantly fresh Arran.

Islay Scotch Whisky

On the left of the map as you look at it you will find the enchanting Isle of Islay with Kilchoman as the first new distillery to be built on Islay for over a hundred years. Islay single malts are distinguishable by their peaty, smoky qualities. From the power of Ardbeg to the delicate softness of Bunnahabhain, Islay whiskies have a wide range of unique characteristics.

Campbeltown Scotch Whisky

Without breaking into song, on the western coast of Scotland to the left of Arran and just below Islay, you will find the Mull of Kintyre (remember, no singing!) Here is situated Campbeltown which once boasted over 20 distilleries in the 19th century. Until recently only two distilleries were still working, but with the recent opening of Glengyle after more than 75 years of lying quietly, there are now three. Look out for a little salty peatiness together with spices and smooth oils.

Also visit here for completing the education. I have just pasted all the above content from a website so cannot take credit for any of this.

Australian leaders

The prime minister of Australia admitted last month that he had a drinking problem 4-5 years ago and even addressed parliament drunk.
The leader of opposition last week admitted that he had gone to a strip joint 4 years ago on a official trip to USA and was so drunk that he did not know what all he did.
Both news were in media for hardly one day each. Chake de Australia

What is music world coming to

I was always hopefull( wished) that i will never hear a remix of "Comfortably numb" and then it happened today on radio.
I heard a Dhinchak techno rap (or whatever it is called) version of Comfortably numb.
How can record companies and radio stations allow such cheap and twisted imitations? may be they cant find talent anymore.
Also showed how screwed up today's generation is, i have my fists clenched since then.

Anu Maliks of writing world

I am quite challenged in artisitic capabilities like writing, singing, dancing and painting etc. etc. but i am admirer of good work and i do understand quite a bit of it(even if it is with my perspective).

I have been noticing that most of the people who blog think they are good writers(or just writers). They write poetry, fiction, dramas etc . and often they are praised as well by fellow bloggers, this ofcourse encourages them to write more stories/poetry and inspires other bloggers to give it a shot.

After carefully going through many blogs i have deduced that they are all "Anu Maliks of Writing world".

They are all bad and the work is subconsciously inspired from the greats. On second thoughts i am no one to judge anyone but its just my perspective.

Agree with me or be wrong.

No Regrets

Three months ago for the sake of saving money( which i badly needed to) I got a housemate to share the rent and other expenses.
So the new roomie turns up, he is a nice, softspoken, non smoker, teetotaller and very shy.
He made tea for me in the mornings, Didn't talk much, did the dishes and ate whatever i suggested we cook for the day.
Three weeks pass like this and then things begin to change slowly; he becomes a bit too much friendly, starts to talk too much, stops making tea in the morning, stopped cleaning the dishes, started to crib about what needed to be cooked. That was all fine with me until he became inquisitive and wanted to know how much did i earn in a month, how many girlfriends i had(i have a clean record in this it has been zero for ages now), who was my first love, who are my closest friends and thr personal lives, my family details etc. etc. This was fine with me too as i didn't have to answer and always snubbed him whenever he asked such questions.

Then after few more weeks he started preaching me things like; smoking is bad for me and i should stop smoking and if i have to smoke i should not smoke when he is around because he gets a head ache, i should not drink alcohol or eat non vegetarian food on tuesdays and thursdays, he would turn up with incense sticks in his hand in my room at 6:30 in the morning, he would crib about each and every grocery item bought and would try to convince me that what flavours are right and what we should eat and buy.

By this time i was loosing my patience but kept quite as i did not want to loose $500 he was paying every month and i must tell you this was a very testing time for me.

A few more things i would like to tell about him; besides the preacher attitude he had he used to go to whore house every month( ofcourse not on tuesdays and thursdays), he watched porn movies and surfed porn websites 6-7 hours a day, he was a pervert, he could not stand ciggaratte smoke in the house but could sit in a strip joint full of smoke for the whole night, he drank 1.5 lit of pepsi everyday(strange), cursed Australia and its culture everyday( I love the place and people here), cursed Indians even more, he does not like sholay, shawshank redemption, clapton, dil chahta hai, has no idea who Sean Connery is but can crib a lot about james bond movies and so eventually sometime around last week the situation became so bad that every time he opened his mouth i wanted to hit him.
But somehow i managed to keep my cool mostly by avaoiding to see his face.
Then last week Apu, who did not know 1/4th of what i have written above asked me why am i tolerating him and i should have kicked him out by now. I suddenly realised that why the hell am i compromising so much for the sake of money, why am doing something i regret every day.
Yesterday i asked him to leave, he was shocked and wanted to know why and all i could say was " If you dont leave immediately i might hit you real soon as i find you quite repulsive, it was a mistake to share house with you" He looked heart broken as he called working men's hostel and luckily they had a room available. He will be moving on Sunday.

I might have to leave the house and move into smaller accomodation or i might keep spending extra $500 a month but i will have NO REGRETS for sure.

Mission Impossible

Out of boredom something good(i hope) is going to happen. I have joined a Gym last week and i have quit smoking(again) from today.
This is mission impossible for me and those who know me would agree. I have joined Gym and quit smoking so many times in last 10 years that even i can not remember.
BUT this time it is different, i have a personal trainer now and her name is Rebecca. Rebecca is as perfect as one can dream of (physically) and she is quite talented too, she has taken me into her kick boxing classes too( which were fully booked).
She has vowed that she will make me loose weight and get back to fitness( after i told some lies about myself and my being supremely fit sportsman in the past).
I hope she succeeds.
Will I succeed in my TRIPLE mission impossible of:
1. Getting fit
2. Quitting Smoking
3. Rebeccaaaaaaaahhhhhh

Dogra Junior

This is my daughter wearing school dress for the first time, she started going to school 2 months ago but refused to wear school dress. No amount of sweet talks or scolding could do the trick and yesterday after everyone had given up she decided to wear it. Like father, like daughter......

In memory of Badi Maa

I do not have words to describe you badi maa, I have never seen a lady who can give so much love and care.
I will always regret for not being there in your last moments. Wish i could have apologized for few things and expressed few things as well.
Now i realise that the "bers" , the "kharbujas", the "gajar ka halwa" and a simple plain "roti" will never be same.
You will be missed badly badi maa and may god bless your soul.

working hours

I am having a great difficulty in spending 8 hours in the office, for the last 10 years i was the first one to arrive and last one to leave types but in last 4 months i have changed into last one to arrive and first one to leave. Some of my Symptoms are:

1. I find my boss Incompetent.
2. I find my subordinates are good for nothing.
3. I feel the systems and procedures we follow in the company are highly non professional.
4. I feel my career has come to a dead end.
5. This job is not what i was promised.
6. The other department heads have negative responsibility and workload compared to me within our company.

Can anyone do a diognosis based on above symptoms?

P.S: Cannot afford to quit this job unless i find a better one.

wrong number

Something really funny happened today and i must put it down here, i am sure i will be laughing at this in the years to come and this is a true incident .
I called my wife who is at didi's house in jullandhar, a maid picks up the phone and she doesnt doesnt understand much of hindi so hands over the phone to a lady:

me: hello
lady: hello, who is on the line?
me: is it deepa dogra's residence?
lady: yes, whom do you wish to speak to?
me: i am looking to speak to meetu dogra.
lady: wrong number.
me: you just said this was deepa dogra's residence?
lady: sorry wrong number . click.

After putting the phone down I think" who ever that wrong number girl was she had a gooooood voice"

My wife calls in 4 hours later and while talking i ask her if didi'd number has changed and she says no it hasn't then she asks if i called i tell her that yes i called 4 hours ago and i was told that this number is not correct. She bursts out laughing and says sorry i didn't recognize your voice and i said niether did i but i asked your name you should have recognized yours and didi's names atleast. She told me that she thought it is a recovery agent from idea who has been calling regarding some 2 years old billing dispute of mine.

1.After 15 years of knowing each other we did not recognize each others voices.

2. I really liked the voice of the girl on the other side of phone, it was not the voice only but the way she spoke ofcourse i did not know it was my wife.

I am scared and not laughing anymore.

What moves you

Has any thing ever moved you to the point of anger, anger that can made you do things you would never do?

What was the happiest moment in your life?

Are you what you want to be as a human being or are you compromised?

what is that you wish for?

What is that you are scared of?

who is one person you hate the most?

Have you done something thinking of which makes your chest swell with pride?

Restart

I have moved a long way since my last post. Then i was a man who was starting afresh and was very unsure of the outcomes but i feel more confident now as i am achieving more than what i had expected and the journey since then has brought back my confidence and may be a little arrogance back. One thing which i hope does not come back is the miserable time spent before starting my life again.
few people i would really like to thank ( it is not my oscar speech but genuine thanks to people because of whom i am on recovery mode today) are APU, DAD, DIDI, LOKY, jagdeep and my daughter.
All my future posts would be much lighter and i needed this to get lighter.
For all those who do not care what i have written here can get the fuck out of my blog and never come back.
I am getting there.

New Life

I arrived in Adelaide exactly 2 months ago and as soon as i landed here i was looking for a job,i could have chosen any field coz i was almost starting afresh here but then i thought i am good at sales(lying) and confident(lying confidently) so started looking for sales jobs.It was another horrible period in my life ,it was frustrating to core.It was kind of 9-5 job searching job with no results .Then came this interview and then the second round and then the third and finally the fourth and i am joining tomorrow as a sales manager with huge set of responsibilities i hope i do well .
